Pinnawala Celebrates its 47th Anniversary with People’s Leasing and Finance PLC
Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is renowned as a tourist destination in Sri Lanka, which has attracted a large number of foreigners and locals marks its 47th Anniversary on the 16th of February 2022.
In order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations Organizations, an awareness board on elephants for public display, were exposed by Mrs. Shermila Rajapaksha, Director General of the Department of National Zoological Gardens, as one of the corporate social responsibility initiatives of the People’s Leasing & Finance PLC.
Mr. Nawod Abeysinghe, Deputy Director (Field) in Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, Mrs. Dilani Amarasinghe, Deputy Director (Pinnawala Zoo), Mr. Hishan Welmilla, Manager – Marketing, Communication and Sustainability and Mr.Roshan Madawala, Branch Manager of People’s Leasing and Finance PLC, Kegalle Branch were present at the event.
While realizing the collective responsibility of educating the public regarding the elephant population in the Elephant Sanctuary, People’s Leasing and Finance PLC undertook this task with the objective of conserving the elephant resource under the direction of Mr. Mihiran Medawala, Deputy Director (Office), Mrs. Chandrika Priyadarshani, Development Officer and other Administrative Officers at Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage.
The Orphanage was established in 1975 by Sri Lanka Wildlife Conservation Department with the objective of caring and protecting orphaned elephants. Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is also a nursery and a captive breeding ground for Asian wild elephants which is under the supervision of the Department of National Zoological Gardens since 1978.
